Initial schooling - a consept in change?
A discourse analytical perspective on initial schooling
Abstract
This paper explores the content of the concept of initial schooling given in policy documents. By analysing white papers, four discourses of initial schooling were identified: Transition from kindergarten to school, resources, mapping and assessment, and teacher competence. The discourses represent different dimensions of initial schooling and clarify that is it a multifaceted concept that has been added new content over time. The discourses contribute elements to the understanding of initial schooling. Furthermore, they can indicate implications for the school's practice and what may be desirable to emphasize in the facilitation of initial schooling.
