Abstract

Children’s physical fitness can give an indication of their health and can affect their social skills, self-esteem and learning. The purpose of this study is to gain knowledge about the relationship between physical fitness and motor skills in children at the age of five. The research question is: Are five-year-old children with high motor skills in better physical shape than five-year-old children with low motor skills?Movement ABC-test and Physical fitness-test was used to test the child’s motor skills and physical fitness. 142 children from 14 preschools participated. The study shows that children with high motor skills are in better physical shape than children with low motor skills. Then, there is a correlation between children’s motor skills and physical fitness. Preschools should thus facilitate that children with low motor skills will be motivated to be more physically active.
